Rocky men add point guard
Gazette News Service | Posted: Thursday, April 29, 2010 12:36 amPoint guard Anthony Carter of Butte College in California has signed a letter of intent with the men’s basketball program at Rocky Mountain College.
The 5-foot-9, 160-pound Carter, from Chico, Calif., was an all-Golden Valley Conference selection last season. He averaged 20.7 points per game in conference play and 16.5 overall as a sophomore with the 13-14 Roadrunners.
“We’re excited about him and his ability,” Rocky coach Bill Dreikosen said. “I think he understands the game extremely well, with and without the ball. You want kids at your point guard spot that have great savvy. That’s one of the things he has.
“Another one of his major strengths is that he’s a scoring point guard,” Dreikosen added. “I think he’ll be a good leader for us.”
Dreikosen said the Battlin’ Bears will be looking to Carter to replace departing point guard Nate Richardson, an all-Frontier Conference performer.
Carter has played at Butte, a two-year school located in Oroville, Calif., for the past two seasons. He was a key reserve as a freshman, helping the Roadrunners compile a 22-9 record and claim the conference championship.
